Why your therapeutic ointment may seem heterogeneous in hot weather (and why it's not a problem)
You have just received your therapeutic ointment: MyoRub+ Advanced, OrthoRub Pro Advanced, Physiogesic Pain Relief Cream, Physiomenthol or any other product from our range, and you notice that the texture is not uniform: one portion seems more liquid, another more dense, or the ingredients appear to have separated slightly. Don't worry: this is a natural phenomenon, well-known, and easily reversible. What's really happening Therapeutic ointments and creams are emulsions or mixtures composed of several types of ingredients: fatty bases (oils, waxes, emollients), active agents (menthol, camphor, essential oils like marjoram or lavender), and sometimes aqueous components. Not all these ingredients have the same temperature sensitivity. In hot weather, whether during transport, in a delivery truck in summer, or during a prolonged stay in a mailbox or a vehicle parked in the sun, the most heat-sensitive components (often fats and waxes) can start to soften or even partially melt, more quickly than other ingredients. The result: a temporary separation, sometimes visible as oilier, softer, or more fluid areas on the surface or in the container. This is a simple physico-chemical principle: heat reduces the viscosity of the fatty phases faster than that of other components, creating an apparent imbalance in texture. What this does NOT mean It is not a sign that the product is expired or degraded It is not a manufacturing defect The product's therapeutic properties are not affected The dosage of active ingredients remains the same — they are simply redistributed The solution: manual stirring is enough The remedy is simple and quick: 1 Stir or knead manually Using a clean, dry metal spoon, stir the product until the texture becomes homogeneous and uniform again. 2 Let it rest if necessary If the product remains very soft after stirring, let it rest at room temperature (ideally between 15 °C and 25 °C) for a few hours. It will naturally regain its normal consistency. The therapeutic and active properties of the product are not affected. The active ingredients remain present in unchanged quantities; only their distribution in the ointment may appear less uniform when the product has been exposed to excessive heat. How to prevent the phenomenon Some good practices to limit this type of inconvenience: Avoid leaving your products in a mailbox or a vehicle exposed to the sun for long periods in summer. Bring in your deliveries as soon as possible, especially on hot days. Store your ointments in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and heat sources. In summary An ointment that appears heterogeneous after delivery in hot weather is not a defective product; it is a natural and reversible reaction of the ingredients to temperature. A simple manual stirring is enough to restore its original texture, without any impact on its effectiveness or safety of use. Find the perfect ointment and rubefacient for your comfort
The choice of an ointment can vary depending on several factors, including the desired sensation, the product's texture, and your personal preferences. The available formulas offer different experiences, ranging from a warming sensation to a cooling effect, or even an application without thermal effect. This guide presents the main options to help you make an informed choice. Understanding the different sensations Topical ointments are primarily distinguished by the sensation they provide upon application: Warmth is often sought for its enveloping effect. Coolness provides a feeling of lightness and comfort. Combined formulas alternate between hot and cold. Some products are neutral and do not provide a thermal sensation. The choice essentially depends on what suits you best. Comparative table of ointments Product Type of sensation Key ingredients Common use Distinctive features OrthoRub Pro Advanced Gentle warmth followed by coolness Camphor, menthol, eucalyptol, clove oil Local application on muscles and joints Reduced odor, fast absorption Ehrlich Balm Persistent warmth Methyl nicotinate, eucalyptus, capsicum Targeted areas requiring sustained warmth Non-staining, paraben-free MyoRub+ Advanced Warmth and coolness Arnica, MSM, essential oils, vitamin E Regular use for muscle comfort Non-greasy texture, rich formula Physiogesic Cream Warmth and coolness Menthol, eucalyptol, camphor Versatile application Cream format, good absorption Physiogesic Spray Warmth and coolness Menthol, eucalyptol, camphor Quick application without massage Convenient spray format Physiomenthol Gel Coolness followed by warmth Menthol Localized application Easy-to-spread gel, refreshing sensation PROMag+ Neutral (dry oil) Magnesium, MSM, arginine Recovery and wellness routine Odorless, light texture Product overview OrthoRub Pro Advanced offers a combination of gentle warmth and coolness. Its texture facilitates application, and its scent is generally perceived as lighter than that of some traditional products. Ehrlich Balm is distinguished by a more persistent warming sensation. It is formulated to remain comfortable on the skin and not stain clothing. MyoRub+ Advanced contains a blend of ingredients recognized in body care products, including essential oils and MSM. Its non-greasy texture makes it suitable for frequent use. Physiogesic Cream offers a simple presentation with fast absorption. It is suitable for local application in a daily routine. Physiogesic Spray allows for contactless application, which can be convenient for certain less accessible areas. Physiomenthol Gel has a gel texture providing an initial cooling sensation, followed by a warming effect. PROMag+ stands out for its absence of thermal sensation. Its dry oil texture and lack of odor make it a discreet option, often integrated into a wellness routine. How to guide your choice Several elements can guide your decision: Preference for a more pronounced warming sensation Seeking a combined hot and cold effect Need for quick application or without massage Importance of texture (cream, gel, oil) Sensitivity to odors Good to know Experience may vary between individuals. It is recommended to follow the instructions provided with each product and to perform a patch test on a small area of skin before more extensive use. If in doubt, it may be wise to start with a smaller 50 ml size, such as the very versatile MyoRub+ Advanced. Conclusion The choice of an ointment is primarily based on your sensory preferences and your usage routine. By comparing the characteristics of the products, you can select the one that best fits your daily life.Click here to see products in the Therapeutic Ointments section.
