Pourquoi votre onguent thérapeutique peut sembler hétérogène en période de chaleur (et pourquoi ce n'est pas un problème)
Trucs et astuces

Why your therapeutic ointment may seem heterogeneous in hot weather (and why it's not a problem)

You have just received your therapeutic ointment: MyoRub+ Advanced, OrthoRub Pro Advanced, Physiogesic Pain Relief Cream, Physiomenthol or any other product from our range, and you notice that the texture is not uniform: one portion seems more liquid, another more dense, or the ingredients appear to have separated slightly. Don't worry: this is a natural phenomenon, well-known, and easily reversible.

What's really happening

Therapeutic ointments and creams are emulsions or mixtures composed of several types of ingredients: fatty bases (oils, waxes, emollients), active agents (menthol, camphor, essential oils like marjoram or lavender), and sometimes aqueous components. Not all these ingredients have the same temperature sensitivity.

In hot weather, whether during transport, in a delivery truck in summer, or during a prolonged stay in a mailbox or a vehicle parked in the sun, the most heat-sensitive components (often fats and waxes) can start to soften or even partially melt, more quickly than other ingredients. The result: a temporary separation, sometimes visible as oilier, softer, or more fluid areas on the surface or in the container.

This is a simple physico-chemical principle: heat reduces the viscosity of the fatty phases faster than that of other components, creating an apparent imbalance in texture.

What this does NOT mean

It is not a sign that the product is expired or degraded
It is not a manufacturing defect
The product's therapeutic properties are not affected
The dosage of active ingredients remains the same — they are simply redistributed

The solution: manual stirring is enough

The remedy is simple and quick:

1
Stir or knead manually
Using a clean, dry metal spoon, stir the product until the texture becomes homogeneous and uniform again.
2
Let it rest if necessary
If the product remains very soft after stirring, let it rest at room temperature (ideally between 15 °C and 25 °C) for a few hours. It will naturally regain its normal consistency.

The therapeutic and active properties of the product are not affected. The active ingredients remain present in unchanged quantities; only their distribution in the ointment may appear less uniform when the product has been exposed to excessive heat.

How to prevent the phenomenon

Some good practices to limit this type of inconvenience:

  • Avoid leaving your products in a mailbox or a vehicle exposed to the sun for long periods in summer.
  • Bring in your deliveries as soon as possible, especially on hot days.
  • Store your ointments in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and heat sources.

In summary

An ointment that appears heterogeneous after delivery in hot weather is not a defective product; it is a natural and reversible reaction of the ingredients to temperature. A simple manual stirring is enough to restore its original texture, without any impact on its effectiveness or safety of use.
