Peppermint is a perennial herb, 50 to 90 cm tall, with a square stem and purplish with small red flowers. This plant is strongly aromatic. It is grown in Europe and North America.
Obtained by hydrodistillation of leaves and fresh flowering tops, this essential oil contains menthol, menthone and several other active ingredients. Its active ingredients give this oil the properties to promote digestion by activating the secretion of salivary, gastric and intestinal juices, and by calming spasms.
It is traditionally used to promote digestion; relieve nausea; calm the pain; treat respiratory tract and gastrointestinal infections. It is also known for its effectiveness in relieving the symptoms of the irritable bowel.
